Sustainability through Every Smile: Tree-Planting in Rwanda
At DB Orthodontics, we're more than just a provider of high-quality orthodontic products – we're committed to making a positive impact on the environment and communities worldwide. As part of our Summer offers, we're thrilled to share that we've taken a step toward a greener future by partnering with One Tree Planted. Thanks to your support, we've contributed to the planting of over 300 trees in Rwanda, creating a ripple effect of positive change.
Reviving Rwanda's Landscapes, One Tree at a Time
Rwanda's lush forests have long been a source of biodiversity and natural resources, but unsustainable large-scale agricultural practices have led to deforestation, impacting the environment and local communities. Recognising the significance of landscape restoration for water, energy, and food security, DB Orthodontics is sponsoring the Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) to empower a women's cooperative led by Agnes Uwifashije, a local farmer. Together, we're breathing new life into the land in Mukura, Rwanda.
Empowering Communities and Restoring Livelihoods
Through our collaboration with ARCOS, we're working to mentor and skill-up 2,000 farmers in sustainable land restoration. By planting a diverse range of trees including Grevillea robusta, Markhamia lutea, Erythrina abyssinica, and more, we're not only replenishing the soil with vital nutrients but also preventing erosion and controlling run-off. These trees will provide invaluable resources to the local farmers, including firewood, climbing bean poles, and animal fodder. Moreover, they'll cultivate avocado, lemon, and tree tomato plants for enhanced food security and income generation.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we pledge to plant a tree with One Tree Planted for every Colour Boutique Mini Ligature pack sold in the UK. We're also committed to keeping you informed about the progress of our sustainability projects through regular updates in the coming months.
DB Orthodontics' Broader Sustainability Commitment
Our efforts extend beyond this tree-planting initiative. In 2023, we're taking bold steps toward a more sustainable future:
- Recycling: We're dedicated to recycling 11,440kg of cardboard and paper, 2380kg of LDPE soft plastics, and 3900kg of all other waste. We believe that even small changes can contribute to significant positive impacts.
- Eco-Friendly Packaging: We're excited to share that we're replacing all our packaging materials with FSA paper/board and using environmentally friendly inks. This shift reflects our commitment to reducing our ecological footprint.
- Solar Power: In line with our passion for sustainability, we're installing solar panels - cutting down CO2 emissions.
