Getting to know our R&D Manager

My role within DBO is extremely varied and can see me dealing with the FDA or MHRA one minute and looking at Christmas party venues the next!

I started with DBO in June 2001 working only 2 days a week covering 2 roles within the company, there were only a handful of us then and the company was still in its infancy, now I work full time and still don’t seem to have enough time in the day!

My job here is to make sure that, as we CE mark and sell medical devices, to ensure that we comply with the strict regulations not only in Europe but also in the other markets that we export to around the world

My job here is to make sure that, as we CE mark and sell medical devices, to ensure that we comply with the strict regulations not only in Europe but also in the other markets that we export to around the world. Placing the CE mark on our products takes an awful lot of time and effort with strict guidelines, procedures and technical documentation that need regularly auditing to confirm compliance.

Another major and favourite part of my role is to oversee all of the development of new and existing products and our research and development projects, this is a very rewarding part of the job as I get to meet and work with Orthodontic professionals, hear of some fantastic, innovative and sometimes complex and unusual ideas and work together to bring them to fruition which can take many, many years of prototype production testing and design tweaking! My regulatory background comes in very handy within this role as I can foresee possible safety concerns am aware of suitable and unsuitable materials and technical file requirements.

I am a very organised person who is good at getting things done or nagging as they say! My husband is grateful that this ability is used up during my day job!

I work with a fantastic quality team here at DBO, the quality controller’s work very hard to keep the quality system working efficiently

My organisation skills see me organising social events that we have as a company, we raise money for charity with a variety of events including the Great DBO bake off and Christmas jumper day; some of you may have seen our pictures on Facebook. I also oversee the running of our very successful Infinitas Mini Implant courses which we have been hosting now with Dr Richard Cousley since 2007.

I work with a fantastic quality team here at DBO, the quality controller’s work very hard to keep the quality system working efficiently and the quality checkers work to such a high standard checking that our Ixion instruments are the premium brand that our customers have some to expect.

My family life as a Mum of two teenagers, wife of 17 years with a fluffy cat and geriatric tortoise (who despite his advanced years should be renamed Houdini!) keeps me very busy as does my professional life which is just the way I like it!

I thoroughly enjoy working at DB Orthodontics and with some great people who have great values, I have been very lucky to see the company blossom over the last 15 years and to be part of that success!
